Ministries

Join us on Mondays at 2pm at Bethel UMC for our new Bible Study.

  • Join us in our Newest Bible Study starting Monday, February 26th and continuing every Monday from 2pm to 3pm at Bethel UMC. We are studying the Bible through The Bible for Dummies. Whether you're interested in broadening your spiritual horizons, uncovering the symbolism of Western culture, or gaining a deeper understanding of the book you grew up reading, The Bible For Dummies has all the information you need to navigate this ancient and fascinating book.

Bible Studies are offered on various books of the Bible or a specific book such as “The Bible for Dummies.” It is our experience that few people know the Bible as well as they would like. Using a study guide and group discussion such as this has proved popular among parishioners.

Small group studies are offered depending on the interest of the parishioners. One example was a three-week study on Prayer. Do you feel comfortable praying aloud to a group of people? Many do not and this class was most helpful and will be offered again.

  • The 5 B’s (Bethel’s Brown Bag Book Bunch) meets the 4th Thursday each month from 11:30 am to 12:30 pm. Having selected a book the month before, the group meets to discuss and share ideas about the chosen book. Bringing their own “brown bag” lunch is optional, but most women do and enjoy sharing with each other while they eat. This group meets in the library at Bethel UMC and is open to all who like to read. Attending Bethel for church services is not a requirement. We have women from all over Lancaster County join us.

  • We have an active Women in Faith group that meets each month at 4 p.m. on the third Wednesday in the church library. We are a mission-minded group donating our efforts to helping others in the community.

  • We have an active Women in Faith group that meets each month at 7 p.m. on the first Tuesday in the church fellowship hall. We are a mission-minded group donating our efforts to helping others in the community.

  • As a United Methodist supported mission, we participate in mission trips to Bo, Sierra Leone. This year we packed New Mother Hygiene Kits and Layette Kits and delivered them for distribution at Mercy Hospital in Bo.

  • Red Bird Mission and Clinic provides ministry to the Appalachian Mountain area of southeastern Kentucky. They do so by providing spiritual, educational, health and community outreach.

  • Bethel UMC and Corrottoman Baptist Church co-sponsor month activities for youth from ages 5-18. Monthly, the program offers lunch, Bible study, and age-appropriate activities. Activities range from movies to making cards for assisted living residents to kickball and cookouts, weather permitting. Location and volunteers are shared by both churches. It is a time on Sunday afternoons for the youth to gather with good wholesome fun and activities that are age appropriate

  • During the giving season before Christmas, we participate in the Toys for Tots program. The program helps parents provide a meaningful Christmas for their children.

  • Our United Methodist Men meet on the second Wednesday each month at 6:30 p.m. They begin with a volunteer-prepared meal and start their business meeting at 7 p.m.

  • On the second Thursday of each month, the Pavilion at Trinity Episcopal Church, 8484 Mary Ball Road, is transformed into a Food Pantry where we provide fresh produce, frozen meat, and general groceries for over 100 local families.

The Food Pantry is powered by volunteers who begin to gather around 10 am to prepare to unload the food delivery truck and prepare the food for distribution. At 1 pm, we open the doors for our clients and load the cars with the groceries. By 4 pm, we close the doors after a successful day of helping our neighbors. We currently serve over 100 families each month.

All voIunteers are welcome the 2nd Thursday of each month. No experience necessary.

Additionally, Bethel and Emmanuel UMC collects pasta and pasta Sauce (in plastic bottles) all month long for the pantry. Donations maybe brought to the church on Sunday and they are delivered to the pantry.

We also have these prayer buddies who share our pews on Sundays and then are sent forth to provide comfort for our neighbors in need.
