Bethel UMC is located in the in Lively, Virginia and was foundered in 1811.

This church has had many names over the years, from Asbury Chapel, to White Chapel Methodist Episcopal and then, in 1875, Bethel Methodist Episcopal Church. It is likely the name was changed to prevent confusion with St. Mary’s Whitechapel Episcopal Church just down the road. Overtime the name changed to Bethel Methodist Church. (Although the old wood church is colloquially referred to as Old Bethel to differentiate it from the current brick church that was built in 1963.)
